Vancouver based consultant, counselor and author David Granirer has developed an innovative mental health recovery program called Stand Up For Mental Health. The Program takes the unique approach of using humour and comedy as a therapeutic tool to build personal confidence in men and women suffering from mental illness. It also helps to fight public stigma, prejudice, and discrimination against such individuals.
The idea behind the Program is that laughing at one’s own setbacks raises the person above them. It makes people change from despair to hope, which is crucial to anyone struggling with adversity; studies have proven that hopeful people are more resilient and also tend to live longer, healthier lives.
As a consultant, David can help you to implement his strategies with your clients, allowing them to deliver their own message of hope and empowerment to the public, thereby changing their perception of what it means to have a mental illness. He has successfully worked with numerous organizations.
The presentation you did at our conference was fabulous! This was just what we needed to make our conference fun and meaningful. Our people were very inspired by the way you work with people with mental illness and help them bring out their strengths through humor.
The evaluation forms that we received were absolutely unanimous in only one thing, and that is that they thought your presentation was fabulous. It turns out to have been the highlight of the conference for most people.
Your comics had us laughing our heads off while also addressing some very serious issues. They brought some hope and encouragement to all of us in our work. Our work is very serious, and you brought us a great reminder of the lighter side of some very tough situations.
