A pioneer in the use of humor as a form of therapy, David Granirer has also taught his program to recovering drug addicts and cancer patients. His work is profiled in the Global TV documentary “Laughing Through the Pain” and in the Voice Award-winning documentary “Cracking Up”. In 2004 he founded Stand Up For Mental Health, a program teaching stand-up comedy to people with mental illness as a way of building self-esteem and fighting public stigma.
David is a consultant, a counselor, and author. He worked for 9 years at The Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of British Columbia, training crisis line counselors in suicide prevention and crisis intervention skills. He has also worked as a counselor in private practice since 1991 and is a member of the Canadian Counseling Association and the Canadian Professional Counselor’s Association.
